2018 winner Dixon leads field in Detroit Grand Prix opening practice

Opening practice for the Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix would see the 22 drivers turn a combined total of 336 laps over the 45 minute session.

Most Laps:          20 laps – Will Power, Colton Herta, Felix Rosenqvist
Fewest Laps:      11 laps – Takuma Sato, Sebastien Bourdais, James Hinchcliffe

Only red flag of the session was for Sebastien Bourdais locking up his tires and sliding into the Turn 7 runoff area. Bourdais would stall trying to turn around instead of driving through the runoff, bringing out a three minute red flag.

Rookie Felix Rosenqvist would slide into the Turn 3 runoff near the end of the session, but would manage to continue.
