With only one practice before qualifying for the Iowa Corn 300, all twenty two Verizon IndyCar Series drivers took full advantage of the 75 minute practice session turning a combined 1,156 laps on the 0.894-mile oval. The fastest of those laps belonged to Tony Kanaan (#10 NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet) with a speed of 186.902mph (17.2197sec). Second fastest in practice was Helio Castroneves with a speed of 186.664mph.

One noticable thing about this practice session is the parity in manufacturers, with Chevy dominating Honda. The top eight drivers in the practice session are Chevy’s, with the lowest running Chevy being Will Power in 13th (183.951mph). The highest position Honda belonged to Ryan Hunter-Reay (184.674mph).
